There once was an awesome blogger named Ginger and she decided to create a super fun feature where fellow bloggers would answer fabulous questions via blog posts every Friday. TGIF was born and we all have Miss Ginger at GReads! to thank for that! This week’s question is:

Book to Movie:

Which book turn movie do you feel did the best adaptation? What about the worst?

This is a tough question because I have either read a lot of books (that were turned to movies) and have never seen the movie or I have seen the movie and never read the book. There are some awesome cases of this!

Great movies:

The Secret Life of Bees

Harry Potter (That’s right! I still have not read The Harry Potter series. Please don’t shun me!)

My Sister’s Keeper

The Road

Holes

Ella Enchanted

Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightening Thief

Atonement

Pride & Prejudice

The Bone Collector

Killer Hair (Heck yes for those Lifetime movies!)

Since I really did love all of these movies, I am going to try to read the books one day but I sometimes fear that the book will be so good that they will ruin the movie for me!

Great books:

The Great Gatsby

Little Women

The Outsiders

Bridge to Terabithia

A Wrinkle In Time

And that is all I could really think of! I guess I have not read many books that were turned into movies without seeing the movie as well .

Even though there are more either single books that I’ve read or single movies that I’ve seen there are still a few cases in which I’ve read the book AND watched the movie.

Great (and not so great) books & movies:

The Twilight Saga. I don’t care what anyone says about the effects, the lame acting skills, scene changes, or whatev, I still think they did the books a great justice by sticking so well with the main story line. Sure there are scenes I would have liked to see or lines from the books that I loved but never made it to the movie. Regardless, it is still one of my favorite adaptations.

Tuck Everlasting. It has been a while since I’ve read the book. It’s been even longer since I’ve seen the movie but it was my favorite as a child and I strongly remember loving them both! It was the first instance where I ever saw my favorite characters put to life.

Because of Winn Dixie. I still love this movie like no other. As the case with Tuck Everlasting, it has been FOREVER since I’ve read the book but I think I will love them both either way if I were to read/watch someday soon.

It’s Kind of a Funny Story. One of the worst adaptations I’ve ever seen! The main idea is the same for the book and movie; a depressed kid admits himself to the psych ward, meets a slew of crazy, funny, quirky characters and finds the will to live again. But there was just something too different between the movie and book. Some characters had an altered personality, some scenes were changed, added, or completely taken out and not to mention the fact that the WHOLE book is getting inside a depressed kid’s head whereas the movie sheds very little light on it. Even though it may sound like I hated the movie, that is not true. I actually loved it A LOT. I just don’t think it was a very good adaptation of the book.

The Vampire Diaries. Okay, it is not a movie but it is still a media adaptation of a book and it sucks! The adaptation NOT the show. It is crazy because in this case I love the show so much more than the books. I found the characters to be really snotty and conceited in the books but in the show I love them…like really, really, really love them (especially the guys)!
